Mackie leads Lakefield over Georgina, 9-0

Behind a great game by Shawn Mackie, who had two goals and two assists, the Lakefield Chiefs defeated the Georgina Ice, 9-0.

Mackie found the back of the net 1:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lakefield and again while on the power play 8:28 into the third to make the score 9-0 Lakefield.

Lakefield's penalty kill excelled, as the Chiefs gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.

Lakefield made Ice's goaltenders to work without much rest, launching 65 shots and forcing 56 saves. Ethan Slimowitz made 14 stops and Tyler Richardson made 42. The Chiefs stifled Georgina's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Lakefield's defensive effort looked to be improved. The Chiefs allow 2.2 goals per game. Lakefield outdid its season average for goals scored. The Chiefs average 4.6 goals per game. Lakefield was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 34 penalty minutes.

Lakefield also got points from Eric Shewell, who also had one goal and one assist, Devin Gilbert, who also registered one goal and one assist, Ryan Saunders, who also tallied two goals and one assist, Nathan Larson, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Travis Brault, who also had one goal and one assist. Keenan Runnalis also scored for Lakefield. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Dalton Hill, who had two and Josh Duggan, Eric Oosting, Connor Blair, and Derek Manley, who each chipped in one.

The Ice could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Georgina puts an average of 2.2 pucks into the net per game. The Ice could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 42 minutes in penalties during the game.

Zach Wainman recorded 24 saves for the Chiefs. Lakefield registered four goals on 13 power play opportunities. For Georgina, JP Contento was ejected from the game.
