Lakefield beats Port Perry 4-3 after comeback scareLakefield-Smith CC Tue, Nov 12, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Port Perry Mojacks tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Lakefield Chiefs held on for a 4-3 victory. A goal by Nathan Larson put Lakefield up 4-1 in the second period, but Port Perry pulled to within one on Brodie Meyers's tally 14:21 into the third period. Larson had two goals to lead the Chiefs to victory. Lakefield was often in penalty trouble, as it ended with eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. Lakefield additionally got points from Eric Oosting, who also registered one goal and one assist. Travis Brault also scored for Lakefield. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Ryan Saunders, who had two and Eric Shewell, Connor Blair, and Derek Manley, who each chipped in one. The Mojacks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals. Port Perry also got a goal from Eric MacDonald as well. More assists for Port Perry came via Lucas Berkers, who had one and Lee Taylor and Jeff St. Pierre, who each chipped in two. Kevin Collins recorded 16 saves for the Chiefs. Team's Mitch Stewart and Devin Gilbert were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Drew Siydock made four saves before being replaced by Jeff Julien, who took the loss and made seven saves. Port Perry totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 2-for-8 on the power play. For the Mojacks, Colton Hawko and Kyle Schweda were ejected from the contest.
