Lakefield holds on for 4-2 win against Little Britain

The Little Britain Merchants tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Lakefield Chiefs would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2.

Lakefield took a 4-1 lead during the second period, only to have Little Britain storm back on a Alex Moore goal 10:30 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Chiefs were led by Eric Oosting, who registered one goal and one assist. Oosting scored 3:29 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Lakefield. Eric Shewell picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:09 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Lakefield put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Merchants to score on any of their three power plays. The Chiefs kept Little Britain's goalie busy throughout the game, and Garrett Haden made 33 saves on 37 shots.

Lakefield also got points from Shewell, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Travis Brault, who also had one goal and one assist, and Derek Manley, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Lakefield came via Shawn Mackie, Devin Gilbert, and Connor Blair, who each chipped in one.

The Merchants were relatively well disciplined in the game, receiving only seven minors and two majors for 24 minutes in penalty time. Little Britain fell short of the 32.0 minutes average penalties per game.

Riley Jenkins also scored for Little Britain. Other players who recorded assists for Little Britain were Brock Beers APM, who had one and Rory McDowell, who had two.

Kevin Collins recorded 18 saves for Lakefield. The Chiefs totaled 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors and went 2-for-5 on the power play. For Lakefield, Dalton Hill and Mitch Stewart were ejected from the contest. Team's Greg ONeil and Jesse Beers were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
