Little Britain vanquishes Clarington in shootout, 6-5 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Little Britain Merchants defeated the Clarington Eagles in a shootout 6-5 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout.

Little Britain came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Merchants was down 3-0 after a power play goal by Clarington's Mitchell Burghardt APM at 1:25 in the second period. Little Britain knotted things up at 5-5 on a power play goal by Brett Doble at 19:50 in the third period.

The Merchants outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Little Britain averages 3.1 goals per contest. The Merchants were hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time.

Riley Jenkins also scored for Little Britain. Other players who recorded assists for Little Britain were Curtis Lee, who had two, Kurtis Moore, who had three, and Jesse Craig AP, Nate Huhges, and Cash Cormier, who each chipped in one.

The Eagles forced Little Britain goalie Garrett Haden to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots.

Clarington was led by Morisette APM Mack, who had one goal and two assists. APM Mack scored on the power play 8:46 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Clarington. The Eagles had taken the advantage when the Merchants' Jesse Beers got sent off for checking from behind. Burghardt APM provided the assist. Clarington also got points from Burghardt APM, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Brad Down, who also registered one goal and one assist. Clarington also got a goal from Cody Kean as well. In addition, Clarington received assists from Dylan Howorko and Thomas Garrity, who contributed one a piece.

Little Britain's Haden stopped 42 shots out of the 47 that he faced. The Merchants registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For Little Britain, Kyle ODonnell and Beers were ejected from the contest. Josh Cole APM made 22 saves for Clarington on 27 shots. The Eagles totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 3-for-8 on the power play. For Clarington, Ben Grieve was ejected from the game.
