Early goals doom Georgina, falls to Lakefield, 5-0Georgina Ice Palace Fri, Nov 01, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Georgina Ice fell behind early, and the Lakefield Chiefs kept piling on the points on the way to a 5-0 victory. Travis Brault had two goals and one assist to lead Lakefield. Brault scored the first of his two goals at 53 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lakefield. Josh Duggan picked up the assist. Brault's next tally made the score 5-0 Lakefield with 3:32 left in the third period. The Chiefs had gotten the advantage when Georgina's Ethan Slimowitz was sent off for delay of game. Nick Hildebrant assisted on the tally. The Ice's power play was ineffective against Lakefield's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. The Chiefs forced Georgina's netminders to work all game long, ripping 37 shots and forcing 32 saves. Tyler Richardson made seven stops and Slimowitz made 25. Lakefield's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Georgina power plays. The Chiefs featured an improved defense during the game. Lakefield averages 2.5 goals allowed per game. Lakefield also had goals scored by Nathan Larson, who had one and Ryan Saunders, who had two. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Shawn Mackie, who had two and Devin Gilbert, Keenan Runnalis, and Eric Shewell, who each chipped in one. The Ice did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Georgina puts an average of 2.5 pucks into the net per game. The Ice could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 32 minutes in penalties during the game. Zach Wainman recorded 24 saves for the Chiefs. Lakefield incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. The Chiefs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Gilbert was ejected from the game.
