Uxbridge vanquishes Georgina in shootout, 4-3 (1-0 SO)Georgina Ice Palace Sat, Oct 19, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Uxbridge Bruins defeated the Georgina Ice in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO). The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams.Uxbridge was led by Jarett Smith, who registered one goal. Smith scored on the power play 11:58 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Bruins had gotten the advantage when Georgina's Jesse Johnston was sent off for interference. Matthew Allen assisted on the tally. In a losing effort, the Ice were paced by Luke Vanderkooy, who registered two goals. Vanderkooy scored the first of his two goals at 13:32 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Georgina. Mack McLean provided the assist. Vanderkooy's next tally made the score 3-3 with 9:39 left in the third period. Johnston assisted on the tally. Uxbridge kept Georgina's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Richardson made 36 saves on 40 shots. Team could not crack the Ice's penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having 10 opportunities to play with the man advantage. Uxbridge additionally got points from Allen, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Uxbridge also got a goal from Liam Blais APM as well. Other players who recorded assists for Uxbridge were Korey Brand, Marco Mastrangelo, Connor Beck, and Tim Bierema, who each chipped in one. Georgina's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Ice finished with 28 penalty minutes. Curtis Puhalski also scored for Georgina. In addition, Georgina received assists from Brett Thomson, Brandon Basler, JP Contento, and Jonathon Colley, who contributed one a piece. The Bruins' Cody Northover stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Uxbridge incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Georgina registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
