Georgina falls apart in second, loses to Lakefield, 11-2Lakefield-Smith CC Tue, Oct 15, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Lakefield Chiefs used a four-goal second period to put away the Georgina Ice, 11-2. Lakefield got the win with help from a great game by Devin Gilbert, who had two goals and two assists. Gilbert scored the first of his two goals at 5:55 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Lakefield. Shawn Mackie assisted on the tally. Gilbert's next tally made the score 5-1 Lakefield with 2:23 left in the second period. Keenan Runnalis picked up the assist. The Chiefs forced Georgina's goaltenders to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots and forcing 22 saves. Tyler Richardson made 21 stops and Kyle Merrmian APM made one. Lakefield's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Georgina power plays. The Chiefs' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Lakefield averages 4.7 goals per contest. Lakefield additionally got points from Mackie, who also tallied two goals and one assist, Gregory Jesse, who also registered one goal and two assists, Jordan Walsh, who also had three goals and two assists to lead the team in points, and Derek Manley, who also finished with one goal and three assists. Lakefield also got a goal from Eric Oosting as well. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Eric Shewell, who had two and Josh Duggan, Ryan Anderson, Adam Pearson, Ryan Saunders, and Travis Brault, who each chipped in one. The Ice managed to hold the Chiefs' power play largely in check, allowing only one goal while on the disadvantage. Georgina's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Ice finished with 32 penalty minutes. Georgina was helped by Tanner Bowditch, who tallied one goal. Bowditch scored 3:14 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Kyle Bricknell assisted on the tally. Georgina also got points from Jonathon Colley, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Georgina came via Zachary Hawkins, who had one. Zach Wainman rejected 17 shots on goal for Lakefield. The Chiefs incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For Lakefield, Connor Blair was ejected from the game.
