Clarington uses early goal to top Georgina, 4-2

The Clarington Eagles took the lead against the Georgina Ice in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 4-2 victory.

Clarington took over the lead for good with a goal by Jarod Holister at 7:00 in the first period. The Eagles earned a power play opportunity when Tanner Bowditch was put in the box for goalie interference. Austin Collins APM assisted on the tally.

Clarington got the win behind a great game by Dylan Howorko, who had two goals and one assist. Howorko scored the first of his two goals at 8:31 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Clarington. Jake Choiniere picked up the assist. Howorko's next tally made the score 3-1 Clarington with 1:06 left in the first period. The Eagles had gained a power play chance when Kyle Bricknell was whistled for slashing. Cole Murray provided the assist.

Clarington pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 36 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:06 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

The Eagles stifled Georgina's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The defensemen of Clarington were also effective in the Ice's zone, and came away with three goals.

Clarington also got a goal from Jesse Hewak as well. In addition, Clarington received assists from Riley O'Connell, who had one and Ben Grieve, who had two.

Georgina racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The Ice surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. Georgina was shut out on the power play, going scoring scoreless on nine chances with a man advantage.

The Ice were led by Dylan Kovacs, who finished with two goals. Kovacs scored the first of his two goals at 9:23 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Clarington. Luke Vanderkooy picked up the assist. Kovacs' next tally made the score 3-2 Clarington with 6:17 left in the second period. Mack McLean provided the assist. More assists for Georgina came via JD Leblond, who had one.

The Eagles' Josh Cole APM stopped 26 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Clarington registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Team's Blane Gaudon and Brad Down were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Tyler Richardson made 23 saves for Georgina on 27 shots. The Ice ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brandon Brown was ejected from the game.
