Lakefield blows out Georgina, 6-1

The Lakefield Chiefs were firing on all cylinders against the Georgina Ice, and when the final buzzer sounded Chiefs emerged with a 6-1 win.

Lakefield was sparked by Derek Manley, who finished with one goal. Manley scored 16:41 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Lakefield. Eric Shewell assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:34 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Chiefs made Ice's netminders to work in net, firing 36 shots and forcing 30 saves. Jake Francis made 30 stops and Tyler Richardson made zero. Lakefield put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Georgina to score on any of its five power plays. The Chiefs bested their season scoring average. This season, Lakefield averages 3.3 goals per contest.

Lakefield also got points from Shewell, who also registered one goal and two assists, Eric Oosting, who also had two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, and Nathan Larson, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Dalton Hill also scored for Lakefield. Other players who recorded assists for Lakefield were Jordan Walsh, who had one and Shawn Mackie and Ryan Saunders, who each chipped in two.

Georgina also got a goal from Luke Vanderkooy as well. More assists for Georgina came via Devon Smith, who had one.

Zach Wainman recorded 18 saves for the Chiefs. Lakefield totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For the Chiefs, Ryan Anderson was ejected from the game. The Ice ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major. Georgina ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brett Thomson was ejected from the game.
