The Newmarket Hurricanes' Sam Hu scored 2:15 into overtime to beat the Burlington Cougars, 5-4 (OT). Hu had a great game for Newmarket, netting two goals. The Hurricanes' offense rang up 53 shots on Burlington's net. Newmarket struggled on the penalty kill, allowing the Cougars to score four power play goals on six chances. Newmarket also got a goal from Trevor Petersen as well. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Christian Dedonato and Brandon Francisco, who contributed one each and Justin Maiolino and Ryan Kruss, who each chipped in three. The Hurricanes were unable to stop Burlington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cougars eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. Burlington was led by Tyler Lepore, who registered one goal and two assists. Lepore scored on the power play 11:11 into the third period to make the score 4-4. A hooking penalty on Adam Smith had put the Cougars on the power play. Paolo DeSousa provided the assist. Burlington additionally got points from DeSousa, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Burlington also had goals scored by Dillon Ciprietti and Viktor Meuller, who scored one goal each. In addition, Burlington received assists from Spencer Herbst, who had one and Ryan Sullivan and Christian Burel, who each chipped in two. Bo Bessette rejected 30 shots on goal for Newmarket. The Hurricanes incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Jeremy Currie recorded 48 saves for Burlington. The Cougars incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For Burlington, Neil Aird was ejected from the game.
