xWhitby holds on for 6-5 win against BurlingtonIroquois - Rink#1 Sun, Feb 09, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The xWhitby Fury survived a determined comeback attempt by the Burlington Cougars on the way to a 6-5 win. xWhitby took a 6-3 lead during the second period, only to have Burlington storm back on a Neil Aird goal 10:39 into the third period to pull to one goal down. The Fury forced the Cougars goalie Morton Josh to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots. xWhitby was helped by Jeff Murray, who registered three goals. xWhitby additionally got points from Marco Azzano, who also finished with two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. xWhitby also got a goal from Mike Panowyk as well. In addition, xWhitby received assists from Greg Milner, who had three and Marcus Crawford, Connor Hale, Adam Clements, and Taylor Best, who contributed one a piece. Burlington found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Cougars average 2.6 goals per game. Burlington was led by Daniel Campbell, who racked up two goals and two assists. Campbell scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:03 into the second period to make the score 2-2. The Cougars had gotten the advantage when the Fury's Mitch Emerson was sent off for high sticking. Aird assisted on the tally. Campbell's next tally on the power play made the score 6-4 xWhitby with 19:51 left in the third period. Dillon Ciprietti provided the assist. Burlington also got points from Aird, who also had one goal and one assist and Tyler Lepore, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Paolo DeSousa also scored for Burlington. More assists for Burlington came via Spencer Herbst, who had one and Ryan Wilkinson, who had three. Boyd Diclemente recorded 20 saves for xWhitby. The Fury incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Burlington's Josh stopped 41 shots out of the 47 that he faced. The Cougars incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Team's Ryan Sullivan and Derek Rotter were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
