Lindsay vanquishes Milton in shootout, 4-3 (1-0 SO)Milton Memorial Arena Sun, Feb 02, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Lindsay Muskies defeated the Milton Icehawks in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO). The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.Lindsay came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Muskies trailed 3-0 after a goal by Milton's Cooper Richards at 9:08 in the first period. Lindsay knotted things up at 3-3 on a short handed goal by Vince Herlihey at 4:15 in the second period. The Muskies were sparked by Joseph Vocino, who had one goal. Vocino scored 16:14 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Milton. Adrian Vendrasco assisted on the tally. Lindsay excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Muskies kept the Icehawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Lewis made 34 saves on 38 shots. Lindsay additionally got points from Herlihey, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Keegan Cairns also scored for Lindsay. Other players who recorded assists for Lindsay were Jake Ryan and Austin Eastman, who contributed one a piece. Milton stifled Lindsay's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Icehawks were helped by Mitch Graham, who grabbed two goals. Graham scored the first of his two goals at 15 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Milton. Shane Bennett provided the assist. Graham's next tally made the score 2-0 Milton with 12:05 left in the first period. Bennett picked up the assist. More assists for Milton came via Ramon Lopez, who had two and Kane Elliot and Patrick Arnold, who each chipped in one. Branden Francey made 26 saves for the Muskies on 29 shots. Lindsay incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors. For the Muskies, Cairns was ejected from the game. Milton incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
