Mississauga downs Hamilton in overtime, 6-5 (OT)Mountain Arena Mon, Jan 27, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Mississauga Chargers' Trevor Warnaar scored 18 seconds into overtime to beat the Hamilton Red Wings, 6-5 (OT). Although Mississauga was up by as many as two goals in the second period, Hamilton kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Red Wings got to within 5-4 on a goal by Riley Dunda at 2:55 in the third period. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:02 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Hamilton was unable to stop the Chargers from sending pucks towards the net, and Mississauga eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. The Chargers bested their season scoring average. Mississauga averages 3.4 goals per game. Mississauga also got points from Lucas Venuto, who also registered two goals and two assists. Mississauga also got a goal from Stefano Alonzi as well. In addition, Mississauga received assists from Mitch Mehling, who had three and Patrick Mooney, Nick Tetley, and Ayrton Valente, who contributed one a piece. The Red Wings were led by Alex Zaccaria, who racked up two goals. Zaccaria scored the first of his two goals short handed at 13:23 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Hamilton. Hamilton found itself down a man on Mitch Reid's high sticking. Connor Bramwell provided the assist. Zaccaria's next tally short handed made the score 5-5 with 5:45 left in the third period. Josh LaFrance also scored for Hamilton. Other players who recorded assists for Hamilton were Josh Chiarot, who had one and Luke Sinclair, who had two. Austin Washkurak recorded 24 saves for the Chargers. Mississauga totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For the Chargers, Thomas Lattavo was ejected from the game. The Red Wings' Corey Foster stopped 30 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Hamilton totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. The Red Wings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Laufman was ejected from the game.
