Whitby falls to Milton in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Milton Icehawks' Kane Elliot scored 46 seconds into overtime to beat the Whitby Fury, 4-3 (OT).

Shane Bennett was all over the ice for Milton, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Bennett scored the first of his two goals short handed at 3:59 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Milton. A roughing call on Elliot put the Icehawks on the penalty kill. Jeremy Gottzmann provided the assist. Bennett's next tally short handed made the score 3-2 Milton with 12:00 left in the second period. Milton had gained a power play chance when Marcus Crawford was whistled for cross checking. Alex Riche assisted on the tally.

The Icehawks pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 16 penalty minutes.

Milton excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances.

Milton also got points from Gottzmann, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Other players who recorded assists for Milton were Joseph Benvenuto and Stephan Templeton, who contributed one a piece.

Whitby kept the Icehawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ben Blacker made 41 saves on 44 shots.

The Fury were helped by Marco Azzano, who registered one goal. Azzano scored 7:12 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Tyler Park provided the assist. Others who scored for Whitby included Ryan Kirkup and Jonathan OHara, who each put in one. In addition, Whitby received assists from Connor Hale, who had two and Jeff Murray, Taylor Best, and Jeremy Wu, who each chipped in one.

Milton registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Whitby's Boyd Diclemente stopped 26 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Fury incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
