Aurora uses big second period to beat Stouffville, 7-1Aurora Community Centre Fri, Jan 17, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Stouffville Spirit allowed the Aurora Tigers to net three goals during the second period and fell, 7-1. Eric Williams was all over the ice for Aurora, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Williams scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:57 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Aurora. The Tigers had gotten the advantage when Stouffville's Matthew Heffernan was sent off for tripping. Taylor McCloy provided the assist. Williams' next tally on the power play made the score 3-1 Aurora with 19:34 left in the second period. McCloy picked up the assist. The Spirit fell victim to a deadly Aurora power play, which ripped Stouffville for four goals. The Spirit were unable to stop the Tigers from sending pucks towards the net, and Aurora eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. The Tigers bested their season scoring average. Aurora averages 4.1 goals per game. The Tigers got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Aurora also got points from McCloy, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Dylan Sikura, who also had one goal and two assists, Michael Laidley, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Robert Angiolella, who also tallied two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. In addition, Aurora received assists from Calvin Higley, who had two and Noah Delmas, Tyler Boston, Kory Kennedy, and Curtis Warren, who contributed one a piece. Stouffville could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Spirit average 3.1 goals per game. Stouffville was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 18 penalty minutes. The Spirit were led by Daryl Thompson, who scored the team's only goal. Thompson scored on the power play 5:59 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Aurora. A slashing penalty on McCloy had put Stouffville on the power play. Matthew Dunlop assisted on the tally. Kevin Entmaa made 21 saves for Aurora on 22 shots. The Tigers incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Spirit's Daniel Mannella stopped 33 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Stouffville registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
