Cobourg blows out Trenton, 7-2

The Cobourg Cougars had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-2 win over the Trenton Golden Hawks.

Conner Hogg had two goals and one assist to lead Cobourg. Hogg scored the first of his two goals at 4:54 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Cobourg. Stuart King provided the assist. Hogg's next tally made the score 7-2 Cobourg with 9:49 left in the third period. A hooking penalty on Bobby Polachek had put the Cougars on the power play. Mason Marchment assisted on the tally.

Cobourg pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 26 penalty minutes.

The Cougars found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Cobourg has scored at the pace of 3.3 goals per game during the current campaign. The Cougars capitalized on Trenton's penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage.

Cobourg additionally got points from Landon Schiller, who also registered one goal and one assist and Marchment, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Cobourg also had goals scored by TJ Melancon and Taylor Gauld, who scored one goal each. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Ryan OGrady and Connor Armour, who each chipped in one and Alex D Oliveira and Kenzie Smith, who contributed two a piece.

The Golden Hawks were held below their usual level of production. Trenton averages 4.1 goals per game.

The Golden Hawks were helped by Nick Santoro, who registered one goal. Santoro scored 12:55 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Cobourg. Brian Hurlimann provided the assist. Zach de Concilys also scored for Trenton. More assists for Trenton came via Tyler Mayea, Dylan Savory, and Ryan Kinsella, who each chipped in one.

Cobourg's Nathan Perry stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Denny Dubblestyne took the loss and made 16 saves before being replaced by Donny Oldreive (APJ) who made five saves. Trenton incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
