Huge game by Poletek boosts Oakville over Burlington, 9-1

The Oakville Blades' Chris Poletek had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 9-1 win over the Burlington Cougars.

Poletek scored at 19:28 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Oakville and again while on the power play 12:17 into the second to make the score 4-0 Oakville.

Burlington was stymied by Oakville netminder Mark Manolescu, who stopped 32 shots during the victory. Manolescu managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.19 prior to the game.

The Blades' offense rang up 40 shots on the Cougars' net. Oakville found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Blades average 3.3 goals per game. Oakville capitalized on Burlington's penalties, netting five goals while skating with a man advantage. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Oakville also got points from Kris Bennet, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Matthew McLeod, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Marcel Fatovic, who also had two goals and one assist. Oakville also had goals scored by Kamil Tkaczuk, Sean Kohler, and Sean Perichak, who scored one goal each. More assists for Oakville came via Greg Allen, Mark Bzowey, Daniel Jelic, Joe Seney, Dalton Bew, and Ross Sloan, who contributed one a piece and Ryan Takamatsa APM and Greg Campbell, who each chipped in three.

The Cougars' offense rang up 33 shots on the Blades' net. Burlington's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Cougars finished with 24 penalty minutes.

Oakville incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Jeremy Currie made 31 saves for Burlington on 40 shots. The Cougars registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
