Milton uses shootout to best Hamilton, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Milton Icehawks defeated the Hamilton Red Wings in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured 16 attempts between both teams. Hamilton's shootout goal was scored by Corey Caruso. In addition to the clincher, Milton got a shootout goal from Jeremy Gottzmann.

The Icehawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Red Wings to score on any of their four power plays. Milton kept Hamilton's goalie busy throughout the game, and Mark Sinclair made 35 saves on 39 shots.

The Red Wings were led by Matt Smith, who registered one goal and one assist. Smith scored 19:17 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Marco Mattina assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Hamilton included Connor Bramwell and Luke Sinclair, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Hamilton were Nathan Gomes, who had one.

Tyler Lewis rejected 24 shots on goal for the Icehawks. Milton incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Hamilton incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
