St. Michaels uses big second period to beat Burlington, 5-0

The Burlington Cougars allowed the St. Michaels Buzzers to net three goals during the second period and fell, 5-0.

St. Michaels was boosted by George Argiropoulos, who turned in a shutout with 28 saves. Argiropoulos certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.65 entering the contest.

Matt Alvaro was all over the ice for the Buzzers, as he finished with two goals in the win. Alvaro scored on the power play at 6:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Michaels and again while 3:53 into the second to make the score 3-0 St. Michaels.

St. Michaels stifled Burlington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Buzzers' defense was surprisingly good. St. Michaels allows 2.7 goals per game. The Buzzers forced the Cougars goalie Morton Josh to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. St. Michaels struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 34 penalty minutes for 12 opposing power plays.

St. Michaels also got points from Thomas Beretta, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. St. Michaels also had goals scored by Stefano Pezzetta and Angelpooulos Peter, who scored one goal each. More assists for St. Michaels came via Ian Edmondson, David Italiano, and Jake Evans, who each chipped in one and Joseph Berton and Mike Lansdowne, who contributed two a piece.

Burlington was held below its usual level of production. The Cougars average 2.7 goals per game. Burlington could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Buzzers registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Josh recorded 31 saves for the Cougars.
