Murray's goals lift Whitby to 5-1 victory over HamiltonMountain Arena Mon, Dec 09, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Behind a great game by Jeff Murray, who had two goals, the Whitby Fury defeated the Hamilton Red Wings, 5-1. Murray scored on the power play at 8:48 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while short handed 13:31 into the first to make the score 2-1 Whitby.Hamilton's power play was ineffective against Whitby's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. The Fury stifled the Red Wings' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Hamilton was unable to stop Whitby from sending pucks towards the net, and the Fury eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Whitby found itself short handed often, totaling 26 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays. Whitby additionally got points from Mike Panowyk, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Greg Milner, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Taylor Best, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. In addition, Whitby received assists from Ryan Kirkup, who had one and Adam Clements, who had two. The Red Wings' offense operated below they season average. Hamilton puts an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game. The Red Wings could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. Hamilton was led by Luke Sinclair, who scored the team's only goal. Sinclair scored 4:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hamilton. Connor Bramwell provided the assist. Tyler Feaver made 21 saves for the Fury on 22 shots. Whitby registered three goals on six power play opportunities. Corey Foster recorded 27 saves for the Red Wings.
