Early goals doom Burlington, falls to North York, 8-1Wave Twin Rinks - Black Sat, Nov 30, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
A five-goal first period deficit cost the Burlington Cougars, which could not recover and fell to the North York Rangers, 8-1. John Carpino had two goals and two assists to lead North York. Carpino scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 12:03 into the first period to make the score 2-0 North York. The Rangers had taken the advantage when Burlington's Adam Burnett got sent off for high sticking. Liam Kerins provided the assist. Carpino's next tally on the power play made the score 8-1 North York with 14:01 left in the third period. A head contact call on Alex Leader put North York on the penalty kill. Valadao Adam picked up the assist. The Rangers pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 16 penalty minutes. North York put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cougars to score on any of their seven power plays. The Rangers' offense rang up 44 shots on Burlington's net. North York found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Rangers average 3.4 goals per game. North York also got points from Kerins, who also registered one goal and two assists and Tye Campbell, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for North York included Corey Kalk, who had two and Fung Zachary and Daniel DErcole, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for North York were Patrick Piacentini, Jeremy Szabo, Power Brody, Phillip Chadder, and Kyle Thacker, who each chipped in one. The Cougars did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Burlington puts an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. The Cougars could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game. Jason Pucciarelli made 24 saves for North York on 25 shots. The Rangers registered three goals on 10 power play opportunities. For North York, Szabo and Campbell were ejected from the contest. Morton Josh recorded 36 saves for Burlington. The Cougars ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Neil Aird was ejected from the game.
