Wellington hangs on, beats Stouffville 3-1Stouffville Arena Sat, Nov 30, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wellington Dukes beat the Stouffville Spirit, 3-1, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout. A goal 19:28 into the the first period by Josh Supryka proved to be the game winner, and powered Wellington to the victory Erick Delaurentis assisted on the tally.The Dukes were led by goalie Tyson Teichmann, who finished with 47 saves while allowing one goal. Teichmann certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.73 entering the contest. Wellington's penalty kill excelled, as the Dukes gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays. Wellington stifled Stouffville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Dukes' offense rang up 34 shots on the Spirit's net. Wellington was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 18 penalty minutes. The Dukes were helped by Joe McKeown, who racked up one goal. McKeown scored 16:14 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Wellington. Supryka picked up the assist. Wellington additionally got points from Supryka, who also registered one goal and one assist. Chad Thibodeau also scored for Wellington. Other players who recorded assists for Wellington were Abbot Girduckis, who had one. Stouffville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wellington to score on any of its three power plays. The Spirit's offense operated below they season average. Stouffville averages 3.1 goals per game. The Spirit's offense rang up 48 shots on the Dukes' net. Stouffville was led by Chad Burrows, who scored the team's only goal. Burrows scored short handed 2:04 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Wellington. The Spirit found themselves down a man on Kyler Challis's cross checking. Nick Thomakos provided the assist. For Wellington, Mike Soucier was ejected from the game. Daniel Mannella made 31 saves for Stouffville on 33 shots. The Spirit incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
