Kingston wins tough contest against Newmarket, 4-2

The Kingston Voyageurs and the Newmarket Hurricanes were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Kingston made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Brett Du Puy secured the win for the Voyageurs with a goal in the second period.

Kingston was paced by Adam Brady, who registered one goal and one assist. Brady scored 15:41 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Kingston. Joey Rutkowski assisted on the tally.

Newmarket was unable to stop the Voyageurs from sending pucks towards the net, and Kingston eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. The Voyageurs got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Others who scored for Kingston included Brett Seney and Jarret Kup, who scored one goal each. In addition, Kingston received assists from Alex Tonge, who had two and Patrick Volpe and Cole Bolton, who contributed one a piece.

The Hurricanes forced Kingston goalie Sam Tanguay to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Newmarket was helped by Shaquille Hickey, who finished with one goal. Hickey scored on the power play 8:25 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Kingston. The Hurricanes had gained a power play chance when Brody Heleno was whistled for kneeing. Nik Coric picked up the assist. Newmarket also got points from Coric, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Newmarket came via Kyle Stephan, Justin Maiolino, and Ryan Kruss, who each chipped in one.

Sam Tanguay made 35 saves for the Voyageurs on 37 shots. Kingston incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Bo Bessette rejected 37 shots on goal for Newmarket. The Hurricanes totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. For Newmarket, Cameron Nicoll was ejected from the game.
