Toronto falls to Wellington after surprising comebackWellington CC Fri, Nov 29, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wellington Dukes climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat the Toronto Junior Canadiens, 3-2. Wellington never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Dukes was down 2-0 after a goal by Toronto's Daniel Harquail at 15:44 in the first period. Wellington knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Abbot Girduckis at 15:47 in the third period. The Dukes netted the game winner at 19:17 in the third period on a goal by Girduckis. Wellington got the win thanks to a great game by Girduckis, who had two goals and one assist. The Dukes excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Wellington additionally got points from Joe McKeown, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Wellington were Kyle Paat and Erick Delaurentis, who contributed one a piece. The Junior Canadiens' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Wellington power plays. Wellington was unable to stop Toronto from sending pucks towards the net, and the Junior Canadiens eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Toronto's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Junior Canadiens finished with 24 penalty minutes. Toronto was helped by Anthony Repaci, who finished with one goal. Repaci scored short handed 9:01 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Toronto. The Junior Canadiens found themselves down a man on Cody Thompson's high sticking. Aaron Spivak provided the assist. In addition, Toronto received assists from Luca Farrace and Connor Prudames, who each chipped in one. Tyson Teichmann made 30 saves for the Dukes on 32 shots. Wellington incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Daniel Lopapa rejected 24 shots on goal for Toronto.
