Cobourg hangs on, beats St. Michaels 3-1

The Cobourg Cougars took the lead against the St. Michaels Buzzers in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-1 victory.

A goal 19:59 into the the first period by Rylee McKinnon proved to be the game winner, and powered Cobourg to the victory Connor Armour picked up the assist.

St. Michaels was stymied by the Cougars netminder Nathan Perry, who stopped 37 shots during the victory. The solid play of Perry will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.13.

Cobourg was sparked by McKinnon, who finished with one goal.

The defensemen of the Cougars were also effective in the Buzzers' zone, and came away with two goals.

Cobourg additionally got points from Jake Emilio, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Liam Grande also scored for Cobourg. More assists for Cobourg came via Alex D Oliveira and Landon Schiller, who each chipped in one.

St. Michaels managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Buzzers finished below its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. St. Michaels did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Buzzers average 3.4 goals per game. Cobourg was unable to stop St. Michaels from sending pucks towards the net, and the Buzzers eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

St. Michaels was led by Ashur Elliot, who scored the team's only goal. Elliot scored 12:43 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Michaels. Ted Hunt assisted on the tally.

The Cougars incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Cobourg ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Logan was ejected from the game. George Argiropoulos recorded 24 saves for the Buzzers. St. Michaels registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
