The Newmarket Hurricanes relied on the scoring touch of Justin Maiolino, who netted two goals, to beat the Toronto Junior Canadiens, 7-3. Maiolino scored at 19:02 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Newmarket and again while short handed 5:16 into the third to make the score 5-3 Newmarket.Newmarket's penalty kill excelled, as the Hurricanes gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays. Newmarket's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Hurricanes average 4.1 goals per contest. Newmarket took advantage of Toronto's penalties, tallying two goals off of three power play opportunities. Newmarket also got points from Nik Coric, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Ryan Kruss, who also had one goal and one assist.
