Venuto nets hat trick, leads Mississauga to 9-2 win over Toronto

Lucas Venuto netted a hat trick to lead the Mississauga Chargers over the Toronto Junior Canadiens, 9-2.

Venuto's first goal came 12:45 into the first period. He then added goals at 24 seconds into the second and at 2:11 into the second.

Toronto's 11 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Junior Canadiens let up five goals while on the penalty kill.

Mississauga made Junior Canadiens' goaltenders to work in net, ripping 37 shots and forcing 28 saves. Daniel Lopapa made nine stops and Nathan Colitto made 19. The Chargers surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Mississauga averages 3.0 goals per game.

Mississauga additionally got points from Ryan Hunter, who also racked up three goals and two assists and Stefano Alonzi, who also registered one goal and one assist. Patrick Mooney also scored for Mississauga. In addition, Mississauga received assists from Nick Tetley, who had three and Jackson Howe, Tyler Cooper, Zackery Landsfield, Alex Lepore, Cory Hyashi, and Mitch Mehling, who each chipped in one.

Toronto's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Junior Canadiens finished with 22 penalty minutes.

Toronto was led by Aaron Spivak, who racked up one goal and one assist. Spivak scored on the power play 17:25 into the first period to make the score 2-2. The Junior Canadiens earned a power play opportunity when Landsfield was put in the box for tripping. Nicholas Jarzabek picked up the assist. Toronto also got a goal from Cody Thompson as well. More assists for Toronto came via Anthony Repaci, who had two.

The Chargers' Lepore stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Mississauga incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Toronto registered two goals on four power play opportunities. For the Junior Canadiens, Jake Walman and Michael Cuddemi were ejected from the contest.
