Orangeville survives penalties, beats Burlington, 5-2

The Orangeville Flyers, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Burlington Cougars' power play opportunities and emerged with a 5-2 victory.

Orangeville was led by Lucas Smilsky, who registered one goal and one assist. Smilsky scored 4:46 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Orangeville. Angelpooulos Peter assisted on the tally.

Burlington was unable to stop the Flyers from sending pucks towards the net, and Orangeville eventually piled up 44 shots on goal. The Flyers found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Orangeville averages 2.5 goals per contest.

Orangeville also got points from Kyle Thacker, who also had one goal and one assist and Peter, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Keegan Ackerland also scored for Orangeville. In addition, Orangeville received assists from Henry Stafferton and Brandon Gaudette, who each chipped in one.

The Cougars forced the Flyers goalie Taylor Welsh to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots.

Burlington was helped by Adam Burnett, who tallied one goal. Burnett scored 7:37 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Orangeville. Daniel Campbell picked up the assist. Burlington also got a goal from Ryan Wilkinson as well. More assists for Burlington came via Tyler Lepore, who had one and Steven Mueller, who had two.

Welsh recorded 40 saves for Orangeville. The Flyers incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Cougars' Morton Josh stopped 39 shots out of the 43 that he faced. Burlington incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
