Huge game by Kirkup boosts Whitby over Hamilton, 7-1

The Hamilton Red Wings had trouble finding ways to stop the Whitby Fury, which beat Red Wings, 7-1.

Whitby got the win behind a great game by Ryan Kirkup, who had one goal and two assists. Kirkup scored 14:35 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Whitby. Jeff Murray picked up the assist.

Hamilton fell victim to a deadly the Fury power play, which ripped the Red Wings for five goals.

Whitby kept Hamilton's goalie busy throughout the game, and Corey Foster made 44 saves on 51 shots. The Fury surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Whitby averages 4.4 goals per contest.

Whitby additionally got points from Greg Milner, who also registered one goal and one assist and Taylor Best, who also racked up two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Henry Thompson also scored for Whitby. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Marcus Crawford, Connor Hale, Mike Panowyk, Troy Oakley, Adam Clements, Mitch Emerson, and Marco Azzano, who contributed one a piece.

The Red Wings did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Hamilton puts an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. The Red Wings found themselves short handed often, totaling 36 penalty minutes and allowing eight power plays.

Boyd Diclemente made 20 saves for the Fury on 21 shots. Whitby incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Hamilton registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
