St. Michaels uses big second period to beat Burlington, 7-2

The St. Michaels Buzzers used a three-goal second period to put away the Burlington Cougars, 7-2.

St. Michaels got the win thanks to a great game by Thomas Beretta, who had one goal and three assists. Beretta scored 16:47 into the third period to make the score 7-2 St. Michaels. Matt Alvaro assisted on the tally.

The Buzzers kept Burlington's goalie busy throughout the game, and Devin Tappendan made 41 saves on 48 shots. St. Michaels bested its season scoring average. The Buzzers average 3.6 goals per game.

St. Michaels also got points from David Italiano, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Alvaro, who also had one goal and two assists, and Jake Evans, who also racked up one goal and one assist. St. Michaels also got a goal from Stefano Pezzetta as well. More assists for St. Michaels came via Jake Clements, Danylo Znaczko, Nick Iafrate, Ian Edmondson, Matt Pepler, and Bron Loiselle, who each chipped in one.

The Cougars were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game Burlington had been spending in the box. St. Michaels was unable to stop the Cougars from sending pucks towards the net, and Burlington eventually piled up 41 shots on goal.

The Cougars were helped by Paolo DeSousa, who grabbed two goals. DeSousa scored the first of his two goals at 7:39 into the third period to make the score 5-1 St. Michaels. Neil Aird provided the assist. DeSousa's next tally made the score 6-2 St. Michaels with 3:42 left in the third period. A roughing penalty on Edmondson had put Burlington on the power play. Carl Greco assisted on the tally. In addition, Burlington received assists from Jordan Brown, who had one.

George Argiropoulos recorded 39 saves for the Buzzers. St. Michaels totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-8 on the power play. For the Buzzers, Iafrate was ejected from the game. The Cougars registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For Burlington, Ryan Wilkinson and Brad Johnson were ejected from the contest.
