Toronto Lakeshore rips Pickering, 7-1

The Pickering Panthers had trouble finding ways to stop the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots, which beat Panthers, 7-1.

Pickering was stymied by Toronto Lakeshore netminder Jeremy Helvig, who stopped 26 shots during the victory. The solid play of Helvig will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.3.

Kevin Shier was all over the ice for the Patriots, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Shier scored on the power play 14:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Toronto Lakeshore. Toronto Lakeshore had gained a power play chance when Sean Power was whistled for interference. Niko Kovachis assisted on the tally.

The Patriots' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Pickering power plays. Toronto Lakeshore's offense rang up 50 shots on the Panthers' net. The Patriots bested their season scoring average. Toronto Lakeshore has scored at the pace of 4.3 goals per game during the current campaign.

Toronto Lakeshore also got points from Marcus Rose, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Nathan Feric, who also had one goal and two assists. Toronto Lakeshore also got a goal from Doug Bonar as well. More assists for Toronto Lakeshore came via Jacob Hayhurst, who had two and Andreas Tsogkas, Matthew Marchese, Luke Carter, and Matthew McLeod, who contributed one a piece.

Pickering was led by Mark Tenuta, who scored the team's only goal. Tenuta scored 16:13 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Brodie Tutton picked up the assist.

The Patriots totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Greg Zupan made 43 saves for the Panthers on 50 shots. Pickering ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
