Cobourg vanquishes Wellington in shootout, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cobourg Cougars defeated the Wellington Dukes in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout.

Cobourg came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Cougars fell behind 2-0 after a power play goal by Wellington's Abbot Girduckis at 13:38 in the second period. Cobourg knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Mason Marchment at 14:24 in the third period.

The Dukes were unable to stop the Cougars from sending pucks towards the net, and Cobourg eventually piled up 44 shots on goal.

Cobourg also got a goal from Jake Emilio as well. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Theo Lewis, Landon Schiller, and Connor Armour, who each chipped in one.

Wellington forced the Cougars goalie Nathan Perry to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

The Dukes were helped by Steven Deeg, who tallied one goal. Deeg scored on the power play 8:41 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Wellington. Wellington earned a power play opportunity when Matt Martin was put in the box for interference. Erick Delaurentis assisted on the tally. More assists for Wellington came via Trevor Cope, Jacob Panetta, and Kyle Paat, who contributed one a piece.

Nathan Perry made 37 saves for Cobourg on 39 shots. The Cougars incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Lucas Machalski rejected 41 shots on goal for the Dukes. Wellington incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
