Milton holds on for 6-5 win against Stouffville

The Milton Icehawks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Stouffville Spirit on the way to a 6-5 win.

Milton made the score 6-4 on a goal by Shane Bennett at 18:22 in the third period, and Stouffville got as close as 6-5 when Nick Thomakos scored 19:25 into the third period.

Ryan Burns was all over the ice for the Icehawks, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Burns scored 12:26 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Cooper Richards picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:29 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Milton was often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. The Icehawks surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Milton outdid its season average for goals scored. The Icehawks average 2.9 goals per game. Milton took advantage of the Spirit's penalties, tallying three goals off of four power play opportunities.

Milton also got points from Alex Riche, who also registered one goal and two assists, TJ Fergus, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Jeremy Gottzmann, who also had one goal and two assists, and Bennett, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Bryce Abraham also scored for Milton.

Stouffville kept the Icehawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Lewis made 40 saves on 45 shots.

Stouffville also got a goal from Michael Morgan as well. More assists for Stouffville came via Kyler Challis, who had one and Matthew Heffernan, Tyson Bruce, and Peyton Backus, who each chipped in two.

Milton ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kane Elliot was ejected from the game. Daniel Mannella made 18 saves for the Spirit on 23 shots. Stouffville totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 2-for-9 on the power play. Team's Brady Baker and Spencer Roberts were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
