Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Milton Icehawks defeated the Trenton Golden Hawks in a shootout 6-5 (2-1 SO). The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams. Trenton's shootout goal was scored by Fabrizio Ricci. Milton's other shootout goal was scored by Jeremy Gottzmann.The Icehawks came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Milton trailed 5-3 after a power play goal by the Golden Hawks' Tyler Mayea at 11:00 in the third period. The Icehawks knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Alex Riche at 18:13 in the third period. Milton got the win thanks to a great game by Riche, who had one goal and two assists. The Icehawks' offense rang up 35 shots on Trenton's net. Milton's goal total was higher than its season average. The Icehawks have scored at the pace of 2.7 goals per game during the current campaign. Milton cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring three goals on four chances. Milton also got points from Jake Baird, who also had one goal and one assist and Gottzmann, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Shane Bennett also scored for Milton. In addition, Milton received assists from Ryan Burns, who had two and Tyler Burns, Kane Elliot, and Michael Andlauer, who contributed one a piece. The Golden Hawks kept the Icehawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Lewis made 41 saves on 46 shots. Trenton's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Trenton additionally got points from Jason Zaleski, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Trenton also got a goal from Ricci as well. Other players who recorded assists for Trenton were Brady Wiffen, who had two and Danny Liscio, Chrisitian Lloyd, Nick Santoro, and Brian Hurlimann, who each chipped in one. Milton incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Emerson Verrier made 29 saves for the Golden Hawks on 34 shots. Trenton incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
