Whitby beats St. Michaels 4-3 after comeback scare

The St. Michaels Buzzers tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Whitby Fury would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

Whitby made the score 4-2 on a goal by Marco Azzano at 11:52 in the third period, and St. Michaels got as close as 4-3 when CJ Shugart scored 13:40 into the third period.

The Fury were led by Azzano, who racked up one goal and one assist.

Whitby kept the Buzzers' goalie busy throughout the game, and George Argiropoulos made 32 saves on 36 shots.

Whitby also got points from Ryan Kirkup, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Henry Thompson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Whitby also got a goal from Sean Deroch as well. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Greg Milner, who had two and Adam Clements and Patrick McAuliffe, who each chipped in one.

St. Michaels forced the Fury goalie Boyd Diclemente to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

The Buzzers were helped by David Italiano, who had two goals and one assist. Italiano scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:48 into the second period to make the score 1-1. An interference penalty on Connor Hale had put St. Michaels on the power play. Danylo Znaczko assisted on the tally. Italiano's next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 3:46 left in the second period. Bron Loiselle picked up the assist. St. Michaels additionally got points from Shugart, who also racked up one goal and two assists.

Diclemente rejected 30 shots on goal for Whitby. The Fury incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Buzzers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
