Toronto Lakeshore boosted by Helvig's play in net, beats Toronto 2-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Jeremy Helvig helped the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots defeat the Toronto Junior Canadiens, 2-1.

Toronto Lakeshore was led by Jacob Hayhurst, who grabbed one goal. Hayhurst scored on the power play 10:53 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Toronto Lakeshore. The Patriots had gotten the advantage when Toronto's Sal Filice was sent off for hooking. Michael Prapavessis picked up the assist.

Toronto Lakeshore stifled the Junior Canadiens' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Patriots were held below their usual level of production. Toronto Lakeshore puts an average of 4.2 pucks into the net per game. The Patriots' offense rang up 36 shots on Toronto's net.

Matthew Marchese also scored for Toronto Lakeshore. In addition, Toronto Lakeshore received assists from Andreas Tsogkas, Matthew McLeod, and Kevin Shier, who contributed one a piece.

The Junior Canadiens' offense operated below they season average. Toronto averages 3.3 goals per game. The Junior Canadiens struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for six opposing power plays.

Toronto was led by Daniel Harquail, who scored the team's only goal. Harquail scored 7:12 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Nicholas Jarzabek assisted on the tally.

Jeremy Helvig made 26 saves for Toronto Lakeshore on 27 shots. The Patriots incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Nathan Colitto rejected 34 shots on goal for the Junior Canadiens. Toronto registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. The Junior Canadiens ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Paris Briscoe was ejected from the game.
