Georgetown uses shootout to best Burlington, 5-4 (4-3 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Georgetown Raiders defeated the Burlington Cougars in a shootout 5-4 (4-3 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Burlington's shootout goals were scored by Tyler Lepore, Steven Mueller, and Curtis Colbary. Georgetown also got shootout goals from John Adams, Luke Sanko, and Liam Board.

The Raiders saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Georgetown made the score 3-1 on a power play goal by Adams at 3:57 in the third period. The Cougars evened things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Board at 19:30 in the third period.

The Raiders managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Georgetown ended up below its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. The Raiders forced Burlington goalie Morton Josh to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.

Georgetown was helped by Adam Nanji, who tallied one goal. Nanji scored 1:42 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Georgetown. Liam Clare picked up the assist. Georgetown also got points from Adams, who also registered one goal and one assist. Anthony Marra also scored for Georgetown. Other players who recorded assists for Georgetown were Phil Kiss, who had two and Gavin Shantz, Steve Hladin, and Ryan Smith, who contributed one a piece.

The Raiders were unable to stop the Cougars from sending pucks towards the net, and Burlington eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

The Cougars were helped by Paolo DeSousa, who had one goal. DeSousa scored 3:23 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Adam Burnett assisted on the tally. Burlington additionally got points from Jeremy Gottzmann, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Burlington also got a goal from Jordan Brown as well. In addition, Burlington received assists from Mueller, who had two and Riley Dunda and Brad Johnson, who each chipped in one.

Michael McNiven rejected 28 shots on goal for Georgetown. The Raiders registered one goal on two power play opportunities. Josh recorded 38 saves for Burlington. The Cougars incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Burlington ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and DeSousa was ejected from the game.
