Buitenhuis leads Oakville to shutout victory over Toronto

Evan Buitenhuis made 31 saves to complete the shutout and led the Oakville Blades to a 2-0 win against the Toronto Junior Canadiens.

Oakville was sparked by Sean Kohler, who grabbed one goal. Kohler scored 6:08 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Oakville. Austin Clapham assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:47 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

The Blades racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. Oakville surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. The Blades excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Oakville forced Toronto goalie Nathan Colitto to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Ross Sloan also scored for Oakville. More assists for Oakville came via Greg Allen and Kamil Tkaczuk, who contributed one a piece.

The Junior Canadiens forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Toronto had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Junior Canadiens' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Oakville power plays. Toronto was held below its usual level of production. The Junior Canadiens average 3.6 goals per game. Toronto's offense rang up 31 shots on the Blades' net.

Oakville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Vince Palermo was ejected from the game. Colitto rejected 33 shots on goal for the Junior Canadiens. For Toronto, Aaron Thow was ejected from the game.
