Whitby wins tough contest against Kingston, 3-2INVISTA Center Thu, Oct 17, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Whitby Fury escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Kingston Voyageurs. Whitby gained the winning advantage on a goal by Mitch Emerson 17:41 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. The Fury were led by Emerson, who tallied one goal. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:28 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Kingston was unable to stop Whitby from sending pucks towards the net, and the Fury eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Whitby also got a goal from Mike Panowyk as well. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Ryan Kirkup, Henry Thompson, Jonathan OHara, Jeff Murray, Greg Milner, and Taylor Best, who contributed one a piece. The Voyageurs forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game Kingston had been spending in the box. The Voyageurs stifled Whitby's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Kingston forced the Fury goalie Boyd Diclemente to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. The Voyageurs were helped by Patrick Volpe, who grabbed one goal. Volpe scored 1:57 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Kingston. Wyatt Cota picked up the assist. Adam Brady also scored for Kingston. In addition, Kingston received assists from Alex Tonge, who had one. Whitby's Diclemente stopped 38 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Fury totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 0-for-7 on the power play. For Whitby, Tyler Park and Sean Deroch were ejected from the contest. Alex Brooks-Potts made 29 saves for Kingston on 32 shots. The Voyageurs registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Team's Blake ONeill and Cole Bolton were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
