Huge game by Francisco boosts Newmarket over Mississauga, 6-3Ray Twinney Rink 1 Sun, Oct 13, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Behind a great game by Brandon Francisco, who had one goal and three assists, the Newmarket Hurricanes defeated the Mississauga Chargers, 6-3. Francisco beat Alex Lepore with a shot 14:19 into the first period on the power play to make the score 1-0 Newmarket. Newmarket had gotten the advantage when Mississauga's Vince Figliomeni was sent off for tripping. Ian Farrell provided the assist. Francisco dished an assist on Brycin Morrison's goal that made the score 2-0 Newmarket at 13 seconds into the second period. He then added assists on Cameron Nicoll's goal at 5:12 into the third and on Trevor Petersen's goal at 5:39 into the third.The Hurricanes forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. Newmarket had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Hurricanes kept the Chargers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Lepore made 39 saves on 45 shots. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Thomas Beretta, who had one and Justin Maiolino and Shaquille Hickey, who each chipped in two. Newmarket was unable to stop Mississauga from sending pucks towards the net, and the Chargers eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Mississauga found itself short handed often, totaling 24 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays. The Chargers were led by Nick Tetley, who had one goal and two assists. Tetley scored on the power play 10:34 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Newmarket. Mississauga had gained a power play chance when Hickey was whistled for cross checking. Thomas Lattavo assisted on the tally. Alex Mills also scored for Mississauga. More assists for Mississauga came via Nicholas Palumbo, who had two. Jake Danson recorded 39 saves for the Hurricanes. The Chargers registered three goals on 10 power play opportunities.
