Newmarket survives Aurora comeback, wins 6-4Aurora Community Centre Sat, Oct 12, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Newmarket Hurricanes came close to giving away a four-goal lead to the Aurora Tigers, but did just enough to escape with a 6-4 victory. Newmarket led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Hurricanes' Brandon Francisco's scored short handed at 15:37 in the first period to put Newmarket up 4-0. Justin Maiolino had one goal and three assists to lead the Hurricanes. Maiolino scored 8:42 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Newmarket. Trevor Petersen provided the assist. Newmarket made Tigers' goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, finishing with 34 shots and forcing 28 saves. Andy Munroe made 16 stops and Kevin Entmaa made 12. Newmarket also got points from Petersen, who also tallied two goals and two assists and Thomas Beretta, who also registered one goal and one assist. Newmarket also got a goal from Nik Coric as well. More assists for Newmarket came via Cameron Nicoll, Adam Smith, Jesse Saban, Taylor Joseph, Ian Farrell, and Shaquille Hickey, who contributed one a piece. Aurora forced the Hurricanes' goalies to work in net, firing 40 shots and forcing 36 saves. Jophrey Gregoire made 36 stops and Jake Danson made zero. The Tigers were helped by Michael Laidley, who racked up one goal. Laidley scored 18:51 into the third period to make the score 6-4 Newmarket. Alex Gilmour assisted on the tally. Aurora additionally got points from Dylan Sikura, who also had one goal and one assist and Kory Kennedy, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Adam DiBrina also scored for Aurora. In addition, Aurora received assists from Mihkel Poldma, who had two and Kyle Liu and Eric Williams, who each chipped in one. Newmarket incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Aurora incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
