Bzowey's goals lift Oakville to 6-3 victory over St. Michaels

The Oakville Blades relied on the scoring touch of Mark Bzowey, who netted two goals, to beat the St. Michaels Buzzers, 6-3.

Bzowey scored at 15:28 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Oakville and again while on the power play 14:09 into the third to make the score 6-3 Oakville.

In the losing effort, St. Michaels was led by David Italiano, who finished with two goals and one assist. Italiano scored the first of his two goals at 7:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Michaels. Bron Loiselle picked up the assist. Italiano's next tally made the score 2-1 St. Michaels with 14 seconds left in the first period. The Buzzers had gotten the advantage when Oakville's Keigan Goetz was sent off for elbowing. Jake Evans assisted on the tally.

The Blades forced Buzzers' goalies to work without much rest, finishing with 45 shots and forcing 39 saves. Bo Bessette made 28 stops and George Argiropoulos made 11. Oakville outdid its season average for goals scored. The Blades average 3.9 goals per game. Oakville's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Blades finished with 25 penalty minutes.

Kamil Tkaczuk also scored for Oakville. Other players who recorded assists for Oakville were Scott Goodman, who had one, Ross Sloan, who had three, and Carmine Vietri, Greg Campbell, and Marcel Fatovic, who contributed two a piece.

St. Michaels was often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 13.0 minutes per game the Buzzers had been spending in the box. St. Michaels' offense rang up 37 shots on Oakville's net. The Buzzers' normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. St. Michaels gives up 2.5 goals per game.

St. Michaels also got a goal from Matt Alvaro as well. In addition, St. Michaels received assists from Marco Ferraro, who had one.

The Blades' Evan Buitenhuis stopped 34 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Oakville registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For the Blades, Chris Poletek was ejected from the game. The Buzzers registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For St. Michaels, Jake Clements and Ian Edmondson were ejected from the contest.
