Kalk nets hat trick, leads North York to 7-2 win over Orangeville

A hat trick by Corey Kalk was the highlight in Rangers' 7-2 win against the Orangeville Flyers.

Kalk got on the scoresheet 1:22 into the first period. He then added goals at 9:43 into the second and at 14:00 into the second.

The North York Rangers' penalty kill excelled, as North York gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

The Rangers kept Orangeville's goalie busy throughout the game, and Taylor Welsh made 39 saves on 46 shots. North York bested its season scoring average. This season, the Rangers average 3.3 goals per contest.

North York additionally got points from Michael Giacometti, who also registered one goal and one assist and John Carpino, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Anthony Latina also scored for North York. More assists for North York came via Patrick Piacentini, Fung Zachary, Alex Leader, Daniel DErcole, and Patrick Simmonds, who contributed one a piece and Valadao Adam, Max Novick, and Matthew Whittaker, who each chipped in two.

The Flyers found themselves short handed often, totaling 20 penalty minutes and allowing eight power plays.

Orangeville was led by Ian Nichols, who racked up one goal. Nichols scored on the power play 19:56 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Flyers had gotten the advantage when North York's Piacentini was sent off for hooking. Kyle Thacker picked up the assist. Orangeville also got a goal from Devon Gillham as well. In addition, Orangeville received assists from Emmerson Small and Colin Rigney, who contributed one a piece.

Jason Pucciarelli made 16 saves for the Rangers on 18 shots. North York incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
