Toronto Lakeshore uses shootout to best Milton, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots defeated the Milton Icehawks in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured five attempts between both teams.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:51 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Toronto Lakeshore excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Milton was unable to stop the Patriots from sending pucks towards the net, and Toronto Lakeshore eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

The Patriots were led by Rory Bell, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Bell scored on the power play 17:15 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Toronto Lakeshore. Toronto Lakeshore had taken the advantage when the Icehawks' Ryan Burns got sent off for fighting. Michael Prapavessis assisted on the tally. Toronto Lakeshore also got a goal from Matthew McLeod as well. More assists for Toronto Lakeshore came via Kevin Shier, who had one.

Milton was helped by Shane Bennett, who registered one goal. Bennett scored 13:49 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Alex Riche picked up the assist. Dante Cannatella also scored for Milton. Other players who recorded assists for Milton were Kane Elliot, who had two.

Mark Manolescu rejected 26 shots on goal for the Patriots. Toronto Lakeshore totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Team's Cory Laver and Jack OHara were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Ben Blacker made 30 saves for the Icehawks on 32 shots. Milton ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For the Icehawks, Burns was ejected from the game.
