Whittaker nets hat trick, leads xNorth York to 8-1 win over Oakville

A hat trick by Matthew Whittaker was the highlight in Rangers' 8-1 win against the Oakville Blades.

Whittaker notched his first tally 56 seconds into the second period. He then added goals at 13:36 into the second and at 12:19 into the third.

The xNorth York Rangers kept Oakville's goalie busy throughout the game, and Mark Manolescu made 34 saves on 42 shots. xNorth York surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Rangers average 3.8 goals per contest.

xNorth York also got points from Ted Hunt, who also had one goal and one assist, Zachary Fung, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Alex Leader, who also registered one goal and one assist. xNorth York also had goals scored by Corey Kalk and Liam Kerins, who each put in one. In addition, xNorth York received assists from Patrick Piacentini, Gabriel Valenzuela, and John Carpino, who each chipped in one and Adam Valadao, Christian Zanetti, and Brandon Gaudette, who contributed three a piece.

The Blades could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 44 minutes in penalties during the game.

Oakville was led by Ryan Garvey, who scored the team's only goal. Garvey scored the first of his two goals at 5:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Oakville. Greg Allen assisted on the tally. Garvey's next tally made the score 3-2 xNorth York with 11:34 left in the second period.

xNorth York's Jason Pucciarelli stopped 23 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Rangers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Blades registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
