Gilmour nets hat trick, leads Aurora to 6-3 win over Orangeville

A hat trick by Alex Gilmour was the highlight in Tigers' 6-3 win against the Orangeville Flyers.

Gilmour's first goal came 9:30 into the second period. He then added goals at 4:12 into the third and at 19:28 into the third.

The Aurora Tigers kept Orangeville's goalie busy throughout the game, and Wyatt Pickrell made 32 saves on 38 shots. Aurora outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Tigers average 3.0 goals per contest. Aurora was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of nine man advantages.

Aurora additionally got points from Michael Laidley, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Calvin Higley, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Aurora also got a goal from Adam DiBrina as well. More assists for Aurora came via Kyle Liu, who had two and Taylor McCloy, Kory Kennedy, Curtis Warren, Eric Williams, Mihkel Poldma, Jordan Peacock, and Robert Angiolella, who each chipped in one.

The Flyers were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 30 penalty minutes.

Orangeville was helped by Keegan Ackerland, who had two goals. Ackerland scored the first of his two goals at 2:56 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Orangeville. Angelpooulos Peter picked up the assist. Ackerland's next tally made the score 4-3 Aurora with 5:22 left in the third period. Peter provided the assist. Orangeville also got points from Peter, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Orangeville were Austin Rigney and Kevin Sarazin, who contributed one a piece.

Andy Munroe rejected 20 shots on goal for the Tigers. Aurora incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Flyers registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
