Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Mississauga Chargers defeated the Burlington Cougars in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO). The shootout lasted for three attempts between the teams. Burlington's shootout goal was scored by Paolo DeSousa. Mississauga also got a shootout goal from Ryan Hunter.The Chargers saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Mississauga made the score 3-1 on a goal by Cory Hyashi at 18:10 in the third period. The Cougars evened things up at 3-3 on a goal by Jeremy Gottzmann at 19:16 in the third period. The Chargers pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 32 penalty minutes. Mississauga stifled Burlington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Chargers forced the Cougars goalie Devin Tappendan to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Mississauga was helped by Vince Figliomeni, who registered one goal. Figliomeni scored 16:07 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Mississauga. Zackery Landsfield assisted on the tally. Mississauga also got a goal from Trevor Warnaar as well. In addition, Mississauga received assists from Nicholas Palumbo, who had two and Hunter and Garret Johnstone, who contributed one a piece. Burlington excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Cougars' offense rang up 52 shots on the Chargers' net. Burlington also got points from Cooper Richards, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Burlington were Jordan Brown, Steven Mueller, Ryan Wilkinson, and Adam Burnett, who each chipped in one. Austin Washkurak recorded 49 saves for Mississauga. Burlington's Tappendan stopped 32 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Cougars incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
