Petersen's big game bests Mississauga in 7-4 Newmarket win

Trevor Petersen had one goal and two assists to lead the Newmarket Hurricanes to a 7-4 victory over the Mississauga Chargers.

Petersen scored 12:45 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Newmarket. Kyle Stephan provided the assist. Petersen dished an assist on Sam Hu's goal that made the score 1-0 Newmarket at 8:13 into the first period. He added another helper on Stephan's goal that made the score 3-0 Newmarket at 13:57 into the first period.

Newmarket forced Chargers' goaltenders to work without much rest, launching 52 shots and forcing 45 saves. Alex Lepore made 26 stops and Austin Washkurak made 19.

Newmarket additionally got points from Stephan, who also had one goal and one assist, Cameron Nicoll, who also tallied two goals and one assist, and Nik Coric, who also had one goal and two assists. Brandon Francisco also scored for Newmarket. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Taylor Joseph, who had three and Christian Dedonato, Thomas Beretta, Justin Maiolino, Ryan Kruss, and Shaquille Hickey, who each chipped in one.

The Hurricanes were unable to stop Mississauga from sending pucks towards the net, and the Chargers eventually piled up 45 shots on goal.

Mississauga was led by Berg Zachery, who registered one goal and one assist. Zachery scored 7:58 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Newmarket. Lenny Dziemanko picked up the assist. Mississauga also got points from Ryan Hunter, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Dziemanko, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Mississauga also got a goal from Vince Figliomeni as well. In addition, Mississauga received assists from Nick Tetley, who had two and Trevor Warnaar, Patrick Mooney, and Cory Hyashi, who contributed one a piece.

Jophrey Gregoire rejected 41 shots on goal for Newmarket. The Hurricanes incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Chargers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
