Carleton Place's Sturtz deadly on offense in 5-2 win against Cumberland

The Carleton Place Canadians relied on the scoring touch of Andy Sturtz, who netted two goals, to beat the Cumberland Grads, 5-2.

Sturtz scored on the power play at 3:26 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Carleton Place and again while 18:46 into the second to make the score 3-1 Carleton Place.

Carleton Place's offense rang up 32 shots on Cumberland's net.

Carleton Place additionally got points from Anthony Latina, who also had one goal and one assist and Dylan Gareau, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Carleton Place also got a goal from Adam Lloyd as well. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Kelly Summers, who had three and Larry Smith, Brett DAndrea, Stephen Baylis, Evan Peterson, and Blair Barr, who each chipped in one.

The Grads were helped by Mark Golberg, who registered two goals. Golberg scored the first of his two goals at 10:22 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Carleton Place. Neill Penner assisted on the tally. Golberg's next tally made the score 5-2 Carleton Place with 8:59 left in the third period. Cumberland had gotten the advantage when the Canadians' Gareau was sent off for interference. Travis Douglas picked up the assist. More assists for Cumberland came via Bruno Cheff, who had one.

Carleton Place's Guillaume Therien stopped 16 shots out of the 18 that he faced. The Canadians incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Kevin Gollmer made 27 saves for the Grads on 32 shots. Cumberland incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
