Kanata vanquishes Cumberland in shootout, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kanata Stallions defeated the Cumberland Grads in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout. Cumberland got a shootout goal from Mark Golberg. In addition to the clincher, Kanata got a shootout goal from Kasey Kulczycki.

The Stallions overcame a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Kanata fell behind 3-0 after a goal by the Grads' Bruno Cheff at 2:03 in the second period. The Stallions tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Keegan Rowe at 12:26 in the third period.

Rowe was all over the ice for Kanata, as he racked up two goals in the win.

The Stallions' offense rang up 39 shots on Cumberland's net.

Nic LaBurn also scored for Kanata. In addition, Kanata received assists from Kulczycki, who had two and Kris Myllari, Alex Robinson, Jeremy Carignan, and Braedan Moffatt, who contributed one a piece.

The Grads excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Cumberland kept Kanata's goalie busy throughout the game, and Cole Skinner made 31 saves on 34 shots.

The Grads were helped by Golberg, who had one goal. Golberg scored 1:44 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Cumberland. Riley Hennigar picked up the assist. Cumberland also got a goal from Matt Allan as well. More assists for Cumberland came via Bobby Williams, who had one.

The Stallions ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. For Kanata, Ben Fanjoy was ejected from the game. Reilly Turner recorded 35 saves for Cumberland. The Grads totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play. Cumberland ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brandon Zullo was ejected from the game.
